Rice Diet - Brown Rice Detox Recipes

Nowadays, people are getting more aware about the importance of maintaining their health. There are many things that people do in order to keep healthy such as exercising regularly, doing yoga or meditation, quitting smoking, reducing the consumption of alcohol, avoiding unhealthy foods, doing a detox program, going on a healthy diet and many more. For those who are overweight or with a serious health problem, doctors might suggest them to go on the Rice Diet. This diet is an excellent weight loss program; you can lose between 20 to 30 pounds in the first month, and 2.5 to 3.5 pounds per week in the later stages. The program consists of very low-calorie, high-complex carbohydrate, low-fat, low-sugar, low-sodium, low-protein diet that will help detoxify and treat chronic health problems. The diet plan requires the use of brown rice. Regular white rice contains a lot of sodium, sugar, and bad fats which are some of the major causes of weight gain and many diseases such as diabetes. On the other hand, brown rice is rich in fiber and healthy fats that help lower bad cholesterol levels.

Besides fiber and good fats, brown rice is also rich in iodine, potassium and essential minerals that are good for your body. It also helps detoxify your body and enhance your energy levels as well mental awareness. Furthermore, it can help you lose weight quickly. Most people do not like the taste of brown rice. However, you can easily turn them into delicious dishes by following easy brown rice detox recipes that can be found in various diet books or on the internet.

The detox program does not require you to consume only brown rice throughout the day. For breakfast, you are allowed to consume one serving of fruit, such as banana, apple, pear or citrus. For a wholesome breakfast, you can try the following rice porridge recipe. Combine ½ cup of brown rice, 1 cup of almond milk and ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg powder in a medium saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring frequently. Cover the pan and reduce the heat. Simmer for about 45 minutes and serve with walnuts, ground flaxseed and chopped Fuji apple.

For lunch and dinner, you must consume about 1 to 2 bowls of fresh vegetables in each meal. You can choose whatever vegetables you like, and they do not have to be the same every day. The following Brown Rice Pilaf is very easy to make. Chop 1 medium onion and 1 green pepper and sauté them in a large pan with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add 1 ¼ cups of brown rice and 2 cloves of garlic; stir until the rice is lightly browned. Add 1 ½ cups of water, 1 cup of chicken broth, a pinch of dried thyme and a pinch of pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat. Simmer for 40 minutes or until the rice is tender. This dish serves up to 6 people, and you can serve it with a side of green salad.

Going on rice diet is the best way to live a healthy life. Brown rice detox recipes will help you to maintain your rice diet program and bring back the healthy you.

Jamaican Food Recipes - Rice and Peas

The most Jamaican of Jamaican food recipes has to be Rice and Peas. The world may know us for jerk chicken, but Rice and Peas is our comfortable old friend that we just cannot do without.

We eat it so often that it has become known as our "Coat of Arms". Ask a Jamaican about Sunday dinner, and the words "Rice and Peas" will almost definitely be in the answer. Some of us will eat it every day, and with every type of meat. Or with just gravy. Or all by itself.

Other countries in the world have variations, but none is exactly like ours, made delicious with coconut milk and the perfect blend of seasonings.

Before powdered and canned coconut milk and canned peas came on the market, the preparation of rice and peas was a lengthy process. A dry coconut would have to be split, the coconut meat taken out and grated, then put through a sieve and the milk squeezed out. Some people still prefer to do it this way, but in addition to being time consuming, grating coconut is not easy on the fingers. So those of us who treasure our hands are grateful that we have easier alternatives to grating!

Ready to cook?

Jamaican Rice and Peas

2 cups parboiled rice1/2 cup red peas, dried or canned4 cups water1 50g sachet of coconut milk powder, or 1/2 of a 400ml can of coconut milk1 tsp salt1 small onion, chopped1 stalk escallion (crushed)1 sprig thyme1/4 tsp pimento (all spice)pinch of black pepper1 whole green scotch bonnet pepper (or other hot pepper)

If using dried peas, soak them for a few hours (or overnight) in water to soften. Boil peas in cold water until tender. Pour off stock from peas and measure. Add enough water and coconut milk/coconut milk powder to make 4 cups of liquid, and add to peas.

If using canned peas, there is no need to cook them beforehand. Just add the four cups of liquid as described above.

To the mixture of peas, water and coconut milk, add all the seasonings and spices. Allow to simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.

Add the rice to this mixture, and stir well. Increase flame until liquid boils. Then reduce heat and cover. Simmer until rice grains are tender. Apart from the first stir, try not to stir the mixture again while cooking, as this might make it sticky.

A delicious alternative to red peas is gungo (pigeon) peas. This version is especially popular at Christmas time when gungo is in season. Use canned or green gungo peas. There is no need to soak green gungo. Merely boil until tender, then continue the recipe as described.

Rice and Peas makes a nutritious, filling and tasty accompaniment to a wide array of meat dishes.

It also makes a good meal for vegetarians, as the peas provide a lot of protein.

Rice and peas is just one of our scrumptious Jamaican food recipes. Jamaica is an exciting place, and so is Jamaican food!

Recipes For Chicken Breast

If you are in need of some recipes for chicken breast then let me help. I love using chicken in any recipe because of how inexpensive it is. I also love using rice for that very same reason. So here I would like to share with you 3 simple and tasty recipes for chicken breast that also have rice.

This first recipe is great for summer. The citrus fruit should be inexpensive and the flavor is very upbeat and lively. My family loves making this and eating it out on the deck.

Citrus Chicken
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2 c pineapple juice
1 lime
1 lemon
1 orange
½ c coconut
1 box wild rice

Bring the pineapple juice to a boil in a medium to large sauté pan. Once boiling add your chicken to the juice.

Dice up the fruit into bite sized pieces and add them to the chicken. Sprinkle the coconut over the juice. Let this all cook together until the chicken is done. Keep a watch on it and if the juice starts to evaporate then add more.

Prepare the rice according to the box except substitute ½ c of the water for pineapple juice.

Then serve the chicken over the rice with a little bit of the pineapple juice/sauce from the pan.

This next of the three recipes for chicken breast is a very basic stir-fry. It is simple and quick to make and you can do the prep ahead of time so all you have to do is throw it together when your ready for it.

Chicken and Veggie Stir-Fry
2 chicken breast, cut into chunks
1 yellow pepper, sliced
1-2 carrots, chopped
1 c onion, sliced
1 ½ c Yoshida's sauce
3 c rice

Start cooking the rice. While the rice is cooking prepare all the vegetables.

When the rice has about 20 minutes left, place the vegetables and sauce into a large wok or frying pan. Let this cook for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked.

Then serve over the rice.

If I am in a hurry then you can cook the rice and prepare the veggies the day before. Then just cook the veggies for 15-20 minutes, heat up the rice and serve.

My family and I love Chinese food, so I have been trying to recreate all of our favorite Chinese recipes for chicken breast at home to save us the expense of eating out. I have found a sweet and sour chicken recipe that I not only love but it is so incredibly easy to make.

Simple Sweet and Sour Chicken
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
Flour
2-3 eggs, beaten
Oil for frying
1 large onion, diced or sliced
1 bell pepper, sliced or cubed
1 can pineapple chunks
1 24 oz bottle Catalina salad dressing
1 jar apricot preserves

Cut the chicken into 1-2" cubes. Then roll it them in flour, dip them in the egg and then roll them in the flour again.

In a medium frying pan add about 2-3 Tbsp oil, just enough for a thin layer at the bottom. When the oil is heated add the chicken and fry until breading is golden brown.

Then add the onion, bell pepper and pineapple to the pan and continue frying until onions and peppers are tender. Keep an eye on it since you may need to add a little more oil.

While that is frying combine the salad dressing and preserves in a saucepan and heat until the preserves are completely liquefied.

To serve, place the chicken over rice and pour the sauce over it.

I hope you will enjoy these recipes for chicken breast as much as my family has.

Common Cold Recipes - Chicken Soup and Congee

As we know the common and seasonal cold are the most commonly occurring illnesses in the entire world, with more than 1 billion colds per year reported in the United States alone. The common cold is a self-limited illness caused by any 1 of more than 200 viruses.
Traditionally, any member of Chinese families who has a cold were only allowed to take hot chicken soup and chicken congee, avoiding all the hard to digest and cold foods. No one knows why but it works more effectively.
Here are some chicken and chicken congee soup recipes that I have used every time when a member of my family getting a cold.
1. Vietnamese Recipe : Chicken Congee Hue Style
Stock:
* 5 chicken thighs, bone in & with skin
* 1 two-inch knob fresh ginger, peeled & halved lengthwise
* 5 whole cloves garlic, peeled
* 1 onion, peeled & quartered
* 10 peppercorns
Congee:
* 2 tbsp olive oil
* 3/4 cup jasmine rice, rinsed & drained
* 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
* 3 shallots, diced
* 1 tbsp fresh, minced ginger
* 4 stalks scallion, thinly sliced (white for soup, green for garnish)
* 2 tbsp Vietnamese fish sauce
* fine sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste
* handful fresh Vietnamese coriander leaves, chopped
* handful fresh Thai basil leaves, chopped
* handful fresh spearmint leaves, chopped
* lime wedges (optional)
To make stock, put first set of ingredients into a 6-qt stock pot and fill up with cold water. Bring to a boil and immediately lower heat to let stock gently simmer. Allow chicken to poach for about 25 minutes or until cooked through. Remove chicken and allow to cool. Carefully take meat off the bones and try to keep the meat in large pieces. Return skins and bones to stock pot to continue simmering. The chicken meat can then be shredded into long, thin strips for use in congee or salad. Continue to add hot water to stock pot to keep ingredients submerged for the remainder of cooking time. I like to simmer my stock for at least 2 hours, but ideally it should simmer for 6 hours or longer. Once done, pour stock through a fine mesh strainer into another stock pot. Discard the solids.
Rinse and drain rice. Heat up a skillet with olive oil, shallot, ginger, garlic and rice and toss until rice is fragrant and fully coated with oil. Transfer rice to pot of simmering stock. Cook for another 30 minutes or until rice is tender. Add white part of scallions, fish sauce and salt & pepper. Serve in soup bowl, topped with shredded chicken and chopped herbs. You can squeeze a bit of fresh lime juice for a burst of freshness. Mix all ingredients up before eating in order to savor all the wonderful flavors.
2. Chicken Congee with Steamed Vegetables
• 1 to 2 cups long grain rice
• 5 to 6 cups chicken broth
• 2 tsp salt
• olive oil
• salt and pepper
• 2 cups dark chicken, loosely chopped
• your favourite vegetables
• peanuts, chopped chillies or chopped scallions for garnish
Traditionally, congee is made when water is added to rice and then boiled to a porridge-like consistency. Substituting chicken broth for water, the congee has an extra strong flavour. Start by bringing the broth and the rice to a boil. Once boiling, reduce to medium low. Then put the lid on the pot, letting steam escape as when making rice. Cook the chicken in a frying pan for a minute or two to give it some colour and then add to the rice. Stir occasionally for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, or until the congee achieves the right consistency and serve. Add salt, garnishes to taste and white pepper for flavour without the heat. If you have a steamer, adding your favourite vegetables into the pot will help the chicken broth infuse with the vegetables, as well as save you cooking time!
3. Mom's Cold-Season Chicken Soup Recipe
Ingredients
4 cups of home made chicken soup
Fat from the homemade chicken stock
1 yellow onion, peeled and roughly diced
2 carrots, sliced in half-inch slices (about the same amount as onion)
2 celery stalks, sliced in 1/4 inch slices (about the same amount as the onion)
1 Tbsp fresh parsley leaves
1 Tbsp of chopped greens from a green onion (green part of the green onion).
1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/8 teaspoon (a pinch) of crushed red pepper flakes (or a small pinch of cayenne)
Salt and pepper to taste
Method
In a 4 qt saucepan, heat a tablespoon of chicken fat (that has risen to the surface and solidified from your homemade stock) on medium high heat. If you don't have enough chicken fat, you can add some olive oil. Sauté the vegetables in the fat until the carrots are almost done. While you are sautéing the vegetables, add the seasoning - the poultry seasoning, the crushed red pepper flakes, a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper. Seasoning like this during the cooking of the vegetables brings out their flavor. According to my mother, crushed red pepper flakes or cayenne is very helpful for a cold, which is why it is part of this recipe. Add the 4 cups of stock. Bring to a low simmer. Add the fresh parsley and green onion greens. Check seasoning and adjust to taste.
Serve with (at least) day old crusty French bread.
Serves 3.

Healthy Chinese Recipes - Cooking With Rice

Okay, let's start off with some simple healthy Chinese recipes, boiled rice and fried rice. One is the quintessential accompaniment to a Chinese dinner, while the other is your classic takeaway dish from the local Chinese restaurant.

But, with just a little tweaking we can make the former have a bit of life and color, and the latter an easy to knock up dish after a long day at work.

Rice

Now, these are both suitable for beginners and vegetarians.

Boiled Rice... with a difference

Right, this is using a rice cooker. All cup measurements refer to the rice cooker cup, which is about 3/4 size of a US measuring cup.
Measure the rice. 1 1/2 cups is enough for two people. Wash the rice until the water runs clear. Put the rice in the pot and add water. 2 cups of water per cup of rice is enough. Add some extras - sweet corn, peas, sun-dried tomatoes, diced carrots, pineapple chunks. These will add flavor, color and nutrition to the rice! Put the pot back in the cooker, close the lid and switch on the cooker. Don't open the lid until the cooker switches itself off. That's right, it will do the rest of the work for you. Dish up. Please remember, if the cooker doesn't keep the rice warm, to refrigerate all uneaten rice ASAP.

Do you like your rice hard or soft? I'm a hard man myself, but enough boasting, ha-ha! Basically, if you like your rice soft then add more water, and vice versa.

Fried Rice

Right, this is great for using leftover rice. You can add loads of stuff. This recipe will be a simple, egg fried rice. For you meaties you can add pre-cooked shrimps or meat strips to the wok in step 5.
Prepare your ingredients - beat one egg per person, chop up some spring onions, dice up some veggies (or use canned or frozen ones). Add a little oil to the wok (or large frying pan). Heat up high and when the oil is hot, add the eggs. Cook until set and then remove from wok and put to the side. Add some more oil and let it get hot. Fry your onions until they just start to turn golden. Remove from wok and set aside. Add more oil if needed and keep the heat medium-high. Put in your veggies and cook until tender, but not too long. We don't want to lose all their goodness! Add a bit more oil. Throw in the rice, eggs and onions. Add a teaspoon of soy sauce (or more if you like it). Cook through, and make sure to keep an eye on the rice to stop it burning. You'll need to do lots of tossing and flipping with the rice to make sure everything is getting cooked through. It's sweaty work! Serve.

Please note, many Chinese people like to add a teaspoon of crushed red chillies at step 5. If you're feeling adventurous or you've got a cold, I suggest you do the same!

What, no meat?

Now the beauty of rice is that apart from being a gorgeously healthy Chinese food, simple to cook, and cleverly versatile, it is also a perfect vegetarian food. So, the recipes above are all Chinese vegetarian recipes, too, though they can be easily adapted to include meat if that's your cup of... um... gravy?

So, there you go two healthy Chinese recipes that you can go and make straightaway!

Risotto is a term for traditional Italian dishes that use rice as the main ingredient. Risotto recipes are made by combining short grain rice with a variety of ingredients to make a delicious dish which is commonly served prior to the main course for dinner. However, risotto may be served with classic dishes such as Ossobuco alla Milanese, which is a popular veal and vegetable dish made combined with stock and white wine. When served with the veal dish, it is served as an entree. When making risotto, a vegetable, meat, or fish stock may be used.

Easy Crockpot Recipes With Rice

Rice is something that you might usually make on the stove while making a stew or curry in the slow cooker. This is not always necessary though because it is possible to cook rice in the crockpot. Actually there are lots of grains you can slow cook, including millet and quinoa.

Rye and barley are grains which take a long time to soften so these are not recommended for slow cooking. Soak grains in water before slow cooking them and you will speed up their cooking time.

Rice

Rice is perhaps the most widely eaten ingredient in the world, although different varieties are better suited to different cooking methods. Long grain rice, for example, does not do well in the crockpot. It does not absorb liquid well or heat up enough to get tender.

Which Types of Rice are Best to Slow Cook?

If you want to know how to cook rice in the slow cooker, choose quick-cooking rice instead. This is a processed rice which does well in the crockpot. Quick-cooking rice will absorb the steam released inside the crockpot and it will cook to perfection without becoming mushy.

You can slow cook quick-cooking rice in about thirty minutes. Risotto rice is another kind of rice that cooks well in the slow cooker and quick-cooking risotto rice is the best variety. You can make a gorgeous, creamy risotto in your slow cooker in about an hour. Other crockpot recipes with rice include jambalaya and rice pudding. You can add cooked rice to any slow cooker recipe in the final stages of cooking and it is especially good to bulk up a soup or stew dish.

Easy Recipe for Crockpot Risotto

This recipe is wonderful because you can leave it to cook itself. Conventional stove-top risotto needs to be watched and stirred nearly constantly but slow cooking eliminates the need for that, while the end result is pretty much identical. This delicious risotto recipe serves six people and you can serve it by itself or as a side dish with your favorite chicken recipe.

What you will need:

3 cups baby spinach 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/4 cup dry white wine 1/2 cup grated parmesan 1/8 teaspoon salt 3 3/4 cups chicken broth 1 diced onion 1 1/4 cups raw Arborio rice

How to make it:

Saute the onion in the olive oil for five minutes in a skillet over a moderately high heat. Transfer it into a crockpot. Add the rice to the crockpot and stir. Add the chicken broth, salt and wine. If you are not using low-salt chicken broth, taste the mixture before adding the salt because it might not be necessary.

Fill a bowl with cold water and add the spinach. Remove it and drain the bowl. Repeat once more, then dry the spinach leaves with a clean kitchen towel. Remove the stems from the spinach and chop the leaves. Add them to the crockpot. Cover and cook for two and a half hours on high or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender. Stir in the cheese and serve the risotto.
