Although man is generally carnivorous in nature, there is still a need for starch in the diet. Since the days of cave dwellers, hunter-gatherers came about as the duty of the male species was to hunt down a mammoth or two whilst avoiding undue attention from a saber-toothed tiger or like. The female population, on the other hand, made their contributions as gatherers, foraging to supplement the dietary needs in case the men returned empty handed.
