How To Cook Perfect Rice With Or Without An Electric Rice Cooker

We all know the most fitting method of preparing rice is to use a rice cooker, nonetheless, if you do not own one or you don't wish to use one there is always the old conventional fail safe way of doing it as well, a system that has been passed down via the generations. Being that there are countless varieties of rice out there means that there are also a number of different ways of preparing it and using it.  One typical method of cooking rice is to give flavor to it through seasonings or broth, a natural soup that you can use instead of water, to make the rice real appetizing as one with chicken or vegetables. In order to produce a substantial helping that will feed at least 4 people you will first of all need a sizeable pan or shallow pot.

On a final note, you may have come to realise that cooking rice can be quite an art that is sometimes difficult to master. If you would like traditional, tasty, fluffy rice cooked perfectly every time, regardless of the rice you are using, without having to slave over it, or worse still, having to scrap burnt or congealed rice from the bottom of your pot each time then now is the time to invest in an electric rice cooker. How to Make Perfect Fluffy Rice

When I first moved to the UK from California, I was overwhelmed by all the excellent curry houses. There seems to be several in every town. Some are quite boring but look around and you are bound to find the perfect Indian restaurant.

One of my first jobs in the UK was in London and I used to frequent an amazing curry restaurant near Waterloo Station. It has since changed owners and is no longer very good so no plug here!

Rice

Every Friday evening I would take my soon to be wife out for a few drinks and we would almost always end up there. I got to know the owners quite well as I would also pop in a few times during the week. The rice they served was sensational. I know what you're thinking, how can rice be that memorable? It was!

One day I asked the owner who was from Goa, this was different as most 'Indian' restaurateurs actually stem from Pakistan, if he would show me how he made his rice so perfect. He was all too happy to oblige.

The next thing I knew I was in his kitchen looking at three huge pots of uncooked rice covered in water. After washing my hands and arms with soap, he told me to put my arms into one of the pots and start stirring, grasping the rice in my hands from time to time. The water turned milky white from the rice starch.

He then told me to drain the rice, fill it up again and start again. I did this with each of the pots of rice, over and over and over again. Finally, after about an hour per rice load, the water remained clear. The rice was ready to cook.

I still do this in my home kitchen. It is essential to use top quality basmati rice. Take enough rice to feed the number of people you are serving and put the rice in a sauce pan with a tight fitting lid.

Now cover the rice with some cold water and start stirring and squeezing the rice which will cause the water to turn milky. Repeat, repeat and repeat some more. You can of course let the rice sit for a while on its own without stirring if you have something else to do.

After about one or two hours the water should stay clear. Your rice is ready to cook.

Cover it with some cold water. There should be about an inch of water over the rice. Cover tightly and bring to a boil.

Once the water is boiling away nicely, turn the heat off and let it sit for about 40 minutes covered.

Run a fork through the rice and serve.

How to Cook Perfect Rice Every Time!

The most common forms of rice are indica (long grain) and japonica (short grain). There are many other forms and varieties of rice, but for our purposes we will "stick" with the basics. Many a cook have become frustrated with sticky, lumpy rice that causes all sorts of panic and dread. Do not be afraid! Cooking rice is easy and can be done perfectly each and every time out. A few basic, simple rules always apply. Follow these rules, and you can become a world class rice cooker every day.

I travelled in the New Orleans area for many years and picked up a few tips from some great home chefs that I use each and every time when I make rice. First off, I was taught to put the rice in a heavy saucepan. Put enough water so that when you put your little finger in the pot, the water will come to the first joint of your little finger. Sprinkle some salt and a spoon or two of butter or margarine. Turn on the fire and when the rice begins to boil, lower the fire and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Cook until all of the water is gone.

Rice

People always get tripped up by what amounts of rice to use. A rule of thumb is to use as much as you will need for that day. What? Very simply, it's a one to two ratio. One cup of rice (medium-grain, long-grain, or extra-long-grain) to two cups of water. Converted rice will sometimes tend to separate. These brands of rice do not separate. They do somehow stick together, but they are are not gluey or sticky. One teaspoon of butter, margarine, or vegetable oil will do the trick. Once the mixture begins to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover and cook for about 20 minutes or until the water is completely absorbed. Do not overheat or burn the rice. If you follow these simple instructions, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

History books tell us that rice came to America by accident. A ship from Madagascar docked in Charleston, South Carolina for urgently needed repairs. In return for the repairs and the southern hospitality extended to the crew of this frigate, John Thurber, the ship's captain, presented Henry Woodward, Charleston's first settler, with a bag of rice. Rice has been grown in America ever since! So keep making your rice and follow these simple instructions. You will not be sorry.

3 Ways To Cook The Perfect Rice

Rice may be cooked by 3 methods, each of which requires a different proportion of water. These methods are boiling, which requires 12 times as much water as rice; the Japanese method, which requires 5 times as much; and steaming, which requires 2-1/2 times as much. Whichever of these methods is used, however, it should be remembered that the rice grains, when properly cooked, must be whole and distinct. To give them this form and prevent the rice from having a pasty appearance, this cereal should not be stirred too much in cooking nor should it be cooked too long.

BOILED RICE - Boiling is about the simplest way. Properly boiled rice not only forms a valuable dish itself, but is an excellent foundation for other dishes that may be served at any meal. The water in which rice is boiled should not be wasted, as it contains much nutritive material. This water may be utilized in the preparation of soups or sauces, or it may even be used to supply the liquid required in the making of yeast bread.

BOILED RICE (Sufficient to Serve Eight)

1 c. rice ; 3 tsp. Salt; 3 qt. boiling water

Wash the rice carefully and add it to the boiling salted water. Boil rapidly until the water begins to appear milky because of the starch coming out of the rice into the water or until a grain can be easily crushed between the fingers. Drain the cooked rice through a colander, and then pour cold water over the rice in the colander, so as to wash out the loose starch and leave each grain distinct. Reheat the rice by shaking it over the fire, and serve hot with butter, gravy, or cream or milk and sugar.

JAPANESE METHOD - Rice prepared by the Japanese method may be used in the same ways as boiled rice. However, unless some use is to be made of the liquid from boiled rice, the Japanese method has the advantage of being a more economical way of cooking this cereal.

JAPANESE METHOD (Sufficient to Serve Eight)

1 c. rice ; 1-1/2 tsp. Salt; 5 c. boiling water

Wash the rice, add it to the boiling salted water, and boil slowly for 15 minutes. Then cover the utensil in which the rice is cooking and place it in the oven for 15 minutes more, in order to evaporate the water more completely and make the grains soft without being mushy. Serve in the same way as boiled rice.

STEAMED RICE - To steam rice requires more time than either of the preceding cooking methods, but it causes no loss of food material. Then, too, unless the rice is stirred too much while it is steaming, it will have a better appearance than rice cooked by the other methods. As in the case of boiled rice, steamed rice may be used as the foundation for a variety of dishes and may be served in any meal.

STEAMED RICE (Sufficient to Serve Six)

1 c. rice; 1-1/2 tsp. Salt 2-1/2 c. water

Wash the rice carefully and add it to the boiling salted water. Cook it for 5 minutes and then place it in a double boiler and allow it to cook until it is soft. Keep the cooking utensil covered and do not stir the rice. About 1 hour will be required to cook rice in this way. Serve in the same way as boiled rice.

How to Cook Perfect Brown Rice Every Time

Rice is a staple food for many different cultures throughout the world. White rice is more common in the United States and many other regions of the world, but brown rice is still consumed by more people overall. The key difference between the two types of rice lies in how they are processed. White takes much more processing overall, as brown is only partly milled or not milled at all.

The cooking process for both rice types also varies. The first mistake people make is assuming that you can cook brown rice just they same way as white. Some people find it harder to cook cook brown rice when compared to its white counterpart. Here are a few tips to ensure you end up with perfectly cooked brown rice.

Rice

To start, you should thoroughly rinse your rice until the water runs clear. The next step is to start boiling water for your rice to cook in. The rice to water ratio is very important and should be 1 cup of rice to 1-1/2 cups of water. Another important step you do not want to overlook is to add the rice only after the water is fully boiling.

Once you have added the rice to the boiling water, cover the pot and reduce the heat to low for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, you will want to remove the pot from the heat, but do not remove the lid. Leave the pot to rest uncovered for another 15 minutes or so. Any longer than 15 minutes and your rice can end up soggy and mushy.

The two steps that cannot be overlooked are ensuring the correct rice to water ratio, along with adding rice after the water is boiling. These two things differ from the way white rice is prepared, so they are the areas that people tend to mess up when cooking brown rice.

Once you start to cook brown rice more often, you will begin to get a better feel for the right way to cook it and in no time at all, you will be a pro.

Rice Cooking - How to Cook Perfect Rice

Cooking rice is very difficult if you do not have a rice cooker. It requires a lot of attention form you and even if you give your attention to it, you often end up burning them instead. In this light, we really need to thank rice cookers or rice makers for making our lives easier.

Rice cooker makes cooking an easy thing to do. It uses a thermostat that automatically controls the temperature once the rice is cooked. However, even if this is the case, there are still fiascos that result when cooking in a rice cooker. Some turn fluffy or they stick to the pan while others become dry.

In cooking the perfect rice using your rice maker, it is important that you still need to know the basics about rice cooking. Below are the tips on how to prevent these fiascos from happening while you cook rice.

Use Long Grains

Do not use short-grains since they have a tendency to cook in less time and that they do stick on the bottom of the pan. Do not use instant or pre-cooked rice otherwise they will really get soggy if you cook it in a stainless rice cooker.

Rinsing

There is a science to rinsing the grains. It removes the extra starch and other residues that usually cause the rice to become sticky. You can rinse for two to three times to completely clean it. If you are in a hurry, you can rinse the night before and keep it inside the fridge. This will give it a softer texture.

Use a Heavy Bottom

Using a heavy bottom prevents the rice from sticking to bottom. You can also use a copper pan as this distributes the heat equally on all the sides resulting to uniformly-cooked rice.

Finding the Perfect Rice Crispy Treats Recipe

Rice crispy treats recipe ignites thousands of wonderful memories in me. It's a recipe that can sweeten dreams, throw tastebuds into a tizzy and send your imagination soaring. And this kind of uninhibited frenzy is just not restricted to kids alone. Grown-ups too have an inscrutable affinity for this all time-favorite dessert.

Stir Up Some Passion

The candy corn recipe is the perfect way to bring together some sinful ingredients- candies, marshmallows and crispy rice cereal. Here's what the recipe requires:

½ cup butter

10 cups crispy rice cereal

9 cups miniature marshmallows

2 cups candy corn

A few drops of yellow and red food colors

Set the ball rolling by bringing together the rice cereal and candy corn in a large bowl. Keep the mixture aside. In another large bowl, melt butter and marshmallows over low heat, until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Remove from the heat and add a dash of red and yellow colors. Mix the cereal and the melted marshmallows, stirring as fast as you can. Spread this mixture on a large, greased baking pan. Press down with buttered hands or a spatula. Allow it to cool. Thereafter, cut into squares and watch them do the quintessential disappearing act.

Just in case you are woefully starved of ideas for Halloween snacks, use this delightful recipe with minor variations. Replace the baking pan with a Jack 'O' Lantern styled pan, and watch the animated reactions that follow.

Fun With Flavors

Add a modicum of your favorite flavors and this dessert makes the stunning transformation from boring to brilliant. Here's how:

40 large marshmallows

½ cup butter or margarine

4 cups rice crispy cereal

A sprinkle of vanilla and almond extracts

Bring together marshmallows and butter in a large microwave safe bowl. Microwave for about 10 minutes, stirring at regular intervals. When melted, add in the extracts. Mix the cereal and transfer to a greased pan. Once cool, it'll be high treason not to succumb to their delightful flavors.

Homemade raspberry marshmallows, crispy chocolate cereal or peanut butter - there's no dearth of inspiration when it comes to creating the most delectable of all creations. It's only your insular thinking that can come in your way.

How to Make Boiled Or Steamed Rice the Perfect Way

Many people have tried their hand at making boiled rice. Steamed rice is pretty simple to make. But it surprises me when someone brings it up in a social conversation, as to how to make rice that wasn't sticky or overcooked or undercooked.

We are aiming to make simply nice, fragrant, separate rice that's perfectly cooked. All you need is rice, water, and a thick heavy-gauge pan with a tight-fitting lid. Try to get a pan with glass lid. That way you don't have to lift the lid off the pan to see how it is doing.

What you need is Basmati Rice - 1 cup and water - 1.5 cups

I personally prefer basmati over long grain rice as I love the taste of basmati, but that is my choice. You can use long grain rice, if you like.

Wash off the starch from the rice by rinsing it with water. Rinse till the water becomes clear. Now soak the rice for 20 minutes. This makes the rice grain softer.

I prefer the thick flat bottomed pans, other pans in my experience make the rice stick to the bottom. Put the rice in the pan, add 1.5 cups of water. Leave it on simmer for 20 minutes, with the glass lid on. Now the important thing is not to remove the lid to have a sneak peek on its progress. If you are using a glass lid pan, then you do not have to keep lifting the lid.

I personally add a pinch of salt, it makes the rice softer and tastier. To make each grain of rice separate, I add a drop of ghee or oil. Also, adding a single clove or a single black cardamom, gives it a heady aroma.

Remember, to present the dish well. Eating is all about how the dish, looks, smells and taste!

Perfect Rice

I love my rice cooker.

I know you're not supposed to love inanimate objects, but anything that saves me time, money, and aggravation in the kitchen should be worthy of at least a little affection.  I confess that when rice cookers first appeared on the market, I thought they were one of the biggest money-making, worthless gadgets I had seen.  Why did I need another appliance to take up room in my kitchen when I can boil rice on the stove in a pan that I already own?

Ever had rice turn out as a sticky glob or tried to scrub a pan after you burned the rice on the bottom?  You might fall in love with a rice cooker, too!

Back in the days before we owned a rice cooker, my husband would dutifully eat rice when I fixed it, to set a good example for the kids, of course.  As long as I dressed it up with some type of topping, the whole family would usually eat it. Then came dinner at my sister-in-law's house.

She pulled out a rice cooker to prepare the meal, and I laughed. But when we sat down to eat, everyone actually loved the rice - without any sauce or gravy on top.  My husband said that he would happily eat rice more often if it tasted like that.  I purchased a rice cooker that very week and I have never regretted it.

Now, there are a few guidelines to achieving perfect rice. Everyone knows about the cheap, short-grain white rice that is readily available in most grocery stores.

Do not buy that stuff.

Look for jasmine or basmati rice, also sold in the same section, but much more aromatic and flavorful.  If you like a nutty flavor, look for wild rice.  Do not be fooled by the boxes of rice mixture loaded with sodium, but find a bag or bulk bin of pure wild rice or long grain and wild rice.

Please don't let the instant rice commercials fool you into thinking that cooking rice from scratch is too difficult or time consuming.  It is much cheaper per serving than packaged rice and it only takes 25 minutes.  Just pour in the rice, pour in the water, turn it on and forget it. If the rest of your meal is not done then, never fear. Your new servant will keep the rice piping hot, ready whenever you are.

And the best part -  no burned pans to scrub!

If you enjoy delicious healthy food, but not spend too much time in the kitchen, I recommend watching the flock of Tiger bandwidth of rice. They have long been known for rice production along prefects day, which can be appreciated.

I really enjoyed with my Tiger JNP 1800, I bought last year for Christmas that quality is simply fantastic. Yes, it is not cheap, but worth the price difference compared to my old rice cookerI draw at the end after a few months.

If I got rid of my car rice earlier, I had some difficulty finding a replacement. Fortunately, there were people who had used the models of Tiger, and were able to recommend me. It was the only one that fits my budget, though still a bit 'expensive. Cher or not, I'm glad I bought it.

Good rice should be loose and light, and so far the Tiger Rice Warmer / Cooker medown.

Tiger Rice oven that I use about three days of the week, and I like that I put the rice before work and finished the cooking Fifteen minutes later. I did not spend much more time to prepare lunch in the morning.

If time is short, you will notice that the rice cooker have Tiger, so that the rice and keep warm even good taste, even if left in isolation all day. This means that the preparation of a dinner break when you get home from work!

It is a device that was developed in Japan Tiger Corporation in the country, and creating as grills, line Tiger, the other a good reputation is built that you really do not. I have a friend who owned a tiger RICE COOKER over the past eight years. Was to buy that one, really recommended.

If you buy the Tiger> Rice cooker, you probably pay about $ 100 - $ 200, which is not a bad price. Yes, there are cheaper, but in my experience, they made dog food better than anything else. If you want to spend money a little 'more, you can achieve a capacity of more than rice.

If you have a big pot of rice and hotter, which is time with you for a long time, which is anti-adhesive, and then of course make great tasting rice is hot throughout the day,Tiger rice cooker is what I thoroughly recommend.

If you're not sure Tiger rice cooker, you should see the size that is best for you or your family. You can a lot 'of money depending on their size change. For example, can have 3 cups or 20 cups, and spend $ 100 to $ 300.
